Assigning One Free Agent To Each Team
1) Arizona Diamondbacks

Paul Sancya / AP
James McCann
In 2020, Carson Kelly served as the Arizona Diamondbacks primary catcher and severely underperformed. Kelly finished as the 17th best catcher in offense in 2020, which was disappointing. James McCann who arguably is a top five catcher in baseball served as the White Sox backup catcher in 2020 behind Yasmani Grandal. The Diamondbacks should sign McCann, in part because he won't cost too much and would be a great fit in Arizona. Also, the Diamondbacks strength is their starting rotation and their offense was disappointing in 2020, which McCann would help change.
2) Atlanta Braves

Cooper Neill / Getty Images
Marcell Ozuna
This one is easy, no question. Marcell Ozuna was fantastic with the Braves in 2020, after two downseasons in St. Louis with the Cardinals. Ozuna sparked the Braves offseason and was the best DH in baseball in 2020, finishing first overall. Ozuna, along with NL MVP Freddie Freeman led the Braves to their third straight NL East Division title. The Braves should resign Ozuna as he would provide offense and would give them another chance to succeed in 2021, in a division that is only getting tougher.
3) Baltimore Orioles

Christian Petersen / Getty Images
Mike Leake
The Baltimore Orioles are one of the worst teams in baseball but were a little better then expected in 2020. The Orioles offense was decent in 2020 but their rotation was very disappointing. The Orioles are not going to contend in 2021 but are improving with top prospects coming up. The Orioles could use a Starting Pitcher which Mike Leake would provide.
4) Boston Red Sox

Matthew Stockman / Getty Images
Kirby Yates
In 2019, the Red Sox bullpen was very weak asside from Brandon Workman. Their bullpen got even worse in 2020, when Workman was traded to the Phillies. The Red Sox bullpen is arguably the worst in baseball and needs a lot of help. Kirby Yates was the best closer in baseball in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, Yates was injured and will likely recieve a cheaper contract, which makes Yates a perfect fit in Boston.
5) Chicago Cubs

Jeff Roberson / AP
Kolten Wong
The Cubs have had a hole at second base since 2018, as players like Daniel Descalso and Jason Kipnis filled in at second and have been very disappointing. Kolten Wong would solve this, as he has been a top second basemen in baseball over the last few seasons. Wong also would provide another bat to the Cubs, which they might need especially if they trade one of their top bats like Kris Bryant.
6) Chicago White Sox

Julio Aguilar / Getty Images
Alex Colome
This is another easy one. The White Sox were one of the best teams in baseball in 2020 in part due to the White Sox's strengths in their bullpen. Their closer, Alex Colome was one of the best closers in baseball in 2020, finishing tied for fourth in saves. The White Sox should resign Colome this offseason. The White Sox are a top option for many of the top free agents this offseason, including Travor Bauer and George Springer, who are better options elsewhere.
7) Cincinnati Reds

Rich Schultz / Getty Images
Marcus Semien
This also is an easy one. The Reds have had a huge hole at shortstop over the last two seasons. The Reds were 27th overall in batting at shortstop in 2020. Marcus Semien had a down year in 2020 after a 2019 campaign where Marcus finished 3rd in MVP voting. Semien is the top Shortstop on the market this offseason and would be a great fit in Cincinnati, a team that is trying to contend. The Reds will also be active on the trade market with Lindor and Story, who might be moved this offseason.
8) Cleveland Indians

Tim Warner / Getty Images
Michael Brantley
The Indians have been a top team in baseball for many seasons since 2016, when they made it to the World Series against the Cubs. The team currently has one of the best rotations in baseball with AL Cy Young Winner Shane Bieber as their ace. The Indians major weakness is their offense, finishing 25th overall in runs scored, even with stars, Lindor and Ramirez on their roster. The Indians are very likely going to trade Lindor this offseason and should bring back Brantley, who was previously with the team for years, after signing with the Astros in 2019.
9) Colorado Rockies

Evan Petzold / Detroit Free Press
C.J. Cron
For the last two seasons for the Colorado Rockies, Daniel Murphy played first base which at first seemed like a great fit. Murphy severly underperformed at first, and need a replacement at that position. The Rockies finished 28th at 1st base in batting in 2020. C.J. Cron was injured in 2020, and is a huge risk for any team. The Rockies should take this risk and should sign Cron in hope it will pay off to replicate their success from 2017 and 2018.
10) Detroit Tigers

Sam Navarro / USA TODAY Sports
Jonathan Villar
Similar to the Orioles, the Tigers are one of the worst teams in baseball who did overperform and showed glimpses of hope in 2020. The Tigers are a few years away from contention and are not going to get anywhere in 2021. However, the Tigers could usemore offense which Jonathan Villar would provide. Villar also is versatile and would play many players in the infield. Villar would also provide speed and vetern leadership to the Tigers.
11) Houston Astros

Jasen Vinlove / USA TODAY Sports
Brad Hand
The Houston Astros' major weakness in 2020 was their pitching, especially their bullpen, as it has been for years before. In 2020, the Astros finished 16th overall in the bullpen and 21st in Innings Pitched, as their bullpen was so weak. Roberto Osuna, the Astros' closer was injured in 2020 and needed Tommy John Surgery. Osuna is now a free agent and likely will not return to Houston this offseason. The Astros should sign Brad Hand who finished first in saves and was one of the best closers in baseball this year in 2020.
12) Kansas City Royals

Mark Brown / Getty Images
Wade Davis
The Kansas City Royals over the last few years have been one of the worst teams in baseball. In 2020, the Royals signed Trevor Rosenthal, a reliever that had been very bad in the last few years after dominant seasons with the Cardinals before. The Royals signed Rosenthal in hopes that Rosenthal could rebound and they could trade him for prospects at the trade deadline. This worked perfectly in 2020. The Royals should follow the same approach and should try this with Wade Davis, a closer that was dominant with the Royals and Cubs in their World Series runs but then was terrible with the Rockies in 2018 through 2020.
13) Los Angeles Angels

AARON DOSTER / AP
Trevor Bauer
This is another easy one. The Los Angeles Angels have the best player in baseball in Mike Trout and another top bat in Anthony Rendon. However, the Angels have not made the playoffs since 2014 due to a lack of pitching, especially Starting Pitching and no ace. In 2020, the Angels finished 21st among all teams in the rotation and 29th in ERA. 2020 NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer would greatly help the Angels, and would provide thet ace that they badly need. Although Bauer likely alone won't be enough, he would help the team make it back to the playoffs.
14) Los Angeles Dodgers

Derrick Tuskan / AP
Blake Treinen
The Los Angeles Dodgers showed that they are the best team in 2020 as they won the World Series for the first time in over 30 years since 1988. Therefore, the Dodgers need little work to improve their team. Blake Treinen played for the Dodgers in 2020, after a fabulous season in 2018, and a down season in 2019. Treinen was decent for the Dodgers in 2020, and showed that he is a reliable reliever and a very good set up man. The Dodgers should resign Treinen and give him another chance in Los Angeles.
15) Miami Marlins

BRAD REMPE / USA TODAY SPORTS
Ken Giles
The Miami Marlins shocked most in 2020, finishing second in their division, ahead of the Phillies, Nationals, and Mets. The Marlins beat out the Cubs in the NLWC Series and lost out to the rival Braves in the NLDS. The Marlins strength is in their rotation and young pitching staff, while their bullpen is very shaky. The Marlins need to add an established closer, which Ken Giles would provide in Miami.
16) Milwaukee Brewers

John Cordes / Icon Sportswire
Tommy La Stella
In 2020, the Brewers were mediocre and their previous strength, their offense was weak in part due to Yelich's struggles. The Brewers could use a lot of work to their team in every sector of their team, from their rotation to their bullpen to their lineup. The team is at a crossroads and will have to decide which way to go to here, if they want to contend or rebuild. The Brewers should add Tommy La Stella, who would add a contact bat to add to their lineup, no matter which path they choose to take going forward.
17) Minnesota Twins

Hannah Foslien / Getty Images
Nelson Cruz
The Minnesota Twins have been one of the top teams in baseball due to Minnesota's strengths in their lineup and their power. Nelson Cruz signed a two year deal in 2019, and was the Twins' best hitter in 2019 and 2020, finishing with 41 home runs in 2019 and 16 in 2020, in the shortened 60 game season. The Twins need Cruz and should resign him, even though he is now 40 years old. The Twins are contending in the tough AL Central with the previously mentioned, Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians.
18) New York Mets

Alex Trautwig / Getty Images
George Springer
The New York Mets have been disappointing over the last four seasons from 2017 to 2020. The Mets have a lot of promise but have not lived up to expectations. The Mets are arguably the team that has been talked about most this offseason due to their new owner, Steve Cohen who is the richest owner in baseball, and second richest in all of sports. The Mets have had a huge hole at Center Field for years since Carlos Beltran left the team. The team should sign Astros center fielder George Springer, who is from the nearby state of Connecticut.
19) New York Yankees

Corey Sipkin / AP
DJ LeMahieu
The New York Yankees have been one of the best teams in baseball over the last four seasons. However, the Yankees have not been able to make it to the World Series representing the American League. Despite, the Yankees success in 2019 and 2020, the team has had terrible injuries to all of their key players. The team's best player of the last two seasons has been DJ LeMahieu, who put up MVP-type seasons in 2019 and 2020 and has emerged as one of the best players in baseball. LeMahieu is now a free agent and is the perfect fit in New York with his current team.
20) Oakland Athletics

Brian Fluharty / USA TODAY Sports
Mike Minor
The Oakland Athletics despite a ridiculously low payroll, have made the playoffs for three straight years. The A's are one of the best teams in baseball by using analytics and what is now called, moneyball. Oakland's main weakness over the last few seasons has been their Starting Rotation. The team acquired Mike Minor from the Rangers at the trade deadline, a player that was struggling in 2020 but who had solid seasons in years prior with the Braves, Royals, and Rangers. Although, Minor wasn't what the Athletics hoped for, they should give him another chance in hope that he might rebound in 2021 with the team.
21) Philadelphia Phillies

Jeff Chiu / AP
Liam Hendriks
This one is very simple. In 2020, the Phillies bullpen was one of the worst bullpens in baseball, the 28th best according to fangraphs. The Phillies bullpen was the worst part of their team and led to them missing the playoffs for the ninth straight season, despite finishing only one game out in the short season. Liam Hendriks became the Athletics closer in 2019 and became the best closer in baseball over the next two seasons. The Phillies should sign Hendriks as he would greatly help their problems in the bullpen by signing a lockdown closer in Hendriks.
22) Pittsburgh Pirates

Matt Freed / Post-Gazette
Keone Kela
The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the worst teams in baseball and their strategy should be similar to the Royals, as another team that is still in the depths of a rebuild. The Pirates should try to sign veterans to short term deals to trade at the trade deadline for prospects. The Pirates should resign Keone Kela, who has a lot of potential and has not lived up to it so far in his career. Keone Kela could became very valuable for the Pirates and then a contender that needs a reliever.
23) San Diego Padres

Orlando Ramirez / USA TODAY Sports
Trevor Rosenthal
The San Diego Padres emerged as one of baseball's best teams in 2020, and were often known as the Slam Diego Padres. The Padres main strength in 2020 was both their offense and starting rotation. The Padres bullpen was weak as they lost their closer, Kirby Yates to injury. THe Padres will likely target Yates and will try to resign him but will likely fall short to other contenders. The Padres should try to resign Rosenthal this offseason and possibly make him their closer for the future.
24) San Francisco Giants

Gary A. Vasquez / USA TODAY Sports
Andrelton Simmons
The San Francisco Giants are in a period of a short term rebuild right now. The Giants have not been a top team in baseball but will try to contend fairly soon. The Giants should sign Andrelton Simmons, who will likely receive a short contract to try to build up his value. The Giants offense was fairly good this year and they will try to continue to improve both their offense, defense, and pitching.
25) Seattle Mariners

Han Myung-Gu / Getty Images
Ha-Seong Kim
The Seattle Mariners are an upcoming team that are very close to contending in both the AL West and in the American League. The Mariners major league roster right now is not very good, but they are improving and have many key prospects coming up that are almost major league ready. Within a year, the Mariners will be ready to contend. The Mariners should sign Ha-Seong Kim, the korean star who will come to the majors this year. He will give the team offense and a potential top five shortstop to join their young prospects that are almost major league ready.
26) St. Louis Cardinals

AARON LAVINSKY / STAR TRIBUNE
Jake Odorizzi
In 2019, the St. Louis Cardinals won the NL Central after missing the playoffs for three straight years from 2016 to 2018. The Cardinals in 2020, didn't play for weeks due to their covid outbreak and still were able to make the playoffs and finish second in their division. The Cardinals team strength is their rotation, which still needs some work. They should sign Jake Odorizzi, who'd be a great fit in St. Louis with the Cardinals.
27) Tampa Bay Rays

Rich Schultz / Getty Images
Wilson Ramos
The Tampa Bay Rays were the best team in the American League in 2020, and just lost out to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. One of the Rays weaknesses in 2020 was at catcher with Mike Zunino. The Rays should sign Mets' catcher Wilson Ramos who had a very disappointing season in 2020. Ramos played with the Rays in 2017 and 2018, and should return to Tampa, to try to redeem himself there. Ramos also would provide offense to Tampa, a team that's strength is their pitching.
28) Texas Rangers

Tim Heitman / USA TODAY Sports
Justin Turner
For four straight seasons, the Texas Rangers have severely underperformed and have been one of the worst teams in baseball. The Rangers have tried to contend and have never went far enough. The Rangers should sign Justin Turner, a veteran that would be a very good option in Texas, with the Rangers. He would provide leadership and would help the team greatly in the team's transition period.
29) Toronto Blue Jays

Butch Dill / USA TODAY Sports
James Paxton
The Toronto Blue Jays similar to the Padres, are a team that was great in 2020 and are an upcoming team. The Blue Jays have a great young core centered around their infield. They are tied to virtually every top free agent this offseason, and are a top destination for many players on the trade market including Francisco Lindor. Paxton would be a great option in Toronto as they could use another Starting Pitcher, which Paxton would provide due to his potential. Paxton is also from Canada and would return back to his home country if he was to join the Blue Jays in Toronto.
30) Washington Nationals

YONG KIM / STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER
J.T. Realmuto
The Washington Nationals have had a hole at catcher for years since Wilson Ramos left the team after the 2016 season. The Nationals have some money coming off the books and are looking to contend next year in 2021, after a down year in 2020 where they missed the playoffs. The Nationals won the World Series in 2019 in part due to their team chemistry. The Nationals main two weaknesses on their team is in their lineup and bullpen. The Nats should try to rebuild their success and should sign Realmuto to a long term deal. Realmuto would be a great fit in Washington and would give them another top bat that they desperately need.
