Top 10 Highest Paid Contracts in the MLB in 2021

1) Trevor Bauer - SP

Dodgers - $40M

Trevor Bauer got paid this offseason, more then most expected. Bauer will be paid $40 Million this offseason from his home team Los Angeles Dodgers. Many believe that this is an overpay and that Bauer got too much. Bauer got a three year, where he will be paid $40 Million in 2021, $45 Million in 2022, and $17 Million in 2023 with a club option after every season. This contract is huge and the largest AAV per year in history for any players.


2) Mike Trout - CF

Angels - $37.1M

Mike Trout is the best player in baseball and is payed like it. Bauer is receiving over $37 Million in 2021 and a similar AAV for the next decade. Trout is one of thet best players in baseball history which he proves every day on and off the field. Trout has shown that he deserves what he is payed and will not slow down anytime soon.


3) Gerrit Cole - SP

Yankees - $36M

Gerrit Cole was one of the best pitchers in 2018 and 2019 and was paid. He received the largest contract for any pitcher, as he is being paid over $300 Million over 9 Years. Cole is terrific and the second best Starting Pitcher in baseball, after the Crosstown Mets' Ace Jacob deGrom.


4) Jacob deGrom - SP

Mets - $36M

Jacob deGrom is the best Starting Pitcher in baseball over Cole nad others like Bieber and Scherzer. deGrom has proven himself and has never had a season in the Major Leagues with an ERA or FIP above 3.50. deGrom recieved a large extension beefore the 2019 Season and will be paid as the ace of the Mets in 2021 and beyond.


5) Nolan Arenado - 3B

Cardinals - $35M

Nolan Arenado was extended by the Colroado Rockies, where he has played for all of his career. Then, Arenado was traded to the Cardinals. Arenado is being paid $35 Million in 2021, the largest for any infielder in 2021. Arenado is a great player and definitely deserves this contract, unlike Bauer and some of the other players on this list.


6) Stephen Strasburg - SP

Nationals - $35M

Stephen Strasburg has been great over the last decade with the Nationals and was the World Series MVP for the nationals in the World Series in 2019. Strasburg received a large contract and will be under contract for a long time. Strasburg has shown that he can be one of the best pitchers in baseball when right.


7) Max Scherzer - SP

Nationals - $34.5M

Max Scherzer with the Tigers before 2015 was great and one of the best pitchers along with Ace Justin Verlander. Scherzer then signed a long contract with the Nationals that will end after this season. Scherzer has lived up to his contract and has been even better then expected with Washington. Scherzer will go down as one of the best pitcher in the 2010s, along with the previously mentioned Verlander, Clayton Kershaw and Jacob deGrom, among others.


8) Manny Machado - 3B

Padres - $34M

Manny Machado is a great talent that was one of the best infielders in baseball before 2018 with the Orioles. Then, Machado had a down year with the Orioles and Dodgers in 2018. Nevertheless, Machado recieved a max contract worth 300 Million Dollars, over 10 Years. Machado. Machado had another down year in 2019, and was terrific in 2020. Machado is paid a boatload and probably doesn't deserve the contract.


9) Justin Verlander - SP

Astros - $33M

Justin Verlander was one of the best Starting Pitchers in the 21st Century so far and got better as he got older towards his 40th birthday. Verlander was very good and won the Cy Young in 2019. However, Verlander didn't pitch much in 2020 and will not pitch for most, if not all of 2021. Verlander still is a great pitcher and deserves his contract, though it is hurting the Astros, as he isn't even healthy for this season and is very old.


10) Zack Greinke - SP

Astros - $32.9M

Fellow Astro, Zack Greinke is also receiving a large sum of money in 2021. Greinke similar to Verlander, has had a long career and unlike Verlander, Zack has played for more teams including the Dodgers and rival Diamondbacks before being traded to the Astros. Greinke is a great talent that has been another one of the best pitchers over the past decade. Greinke deserves this contract and will be a huge part of the Astros roster in 2021.
